SAND BLASTING (OPAL)

Appleton Uniprof™ Opal achieves its soft, velvety, milky appearance through precise sandblasting of the inner surface of the profiled glass. Despite its high light permeability, this design elegantly obscures closer views of all persons and objects on the other side of the glass, rendering them only perceptible in a shadowy, diffuse manner. The opal effect merges contours and colors into soft, cloudy patches. It is also available as textured glass with an extremely smooth surface.

Thermal Performance

When installed in a double layer, the thermal transmittance coefficient (U-value) is 2.8. For higher thermal insulation requirements, Low-E channel glass can be selected. In such a combination, the outer layer uses opal glass while the inner pieces use Uniprof Low-E glass. This combination maintains the milky, cloudy appearance while providing excellent thermal performance.

Tempering

Sandblasted channel glass can also be tempered. The tempering process for channel glass differs from that of float glass. Appleton’s tempering furnace, designed by an European engineering department and imported from Italy, is optimized specifically for channel glass. Dimensions

In most cases, Appleton’s U glass lengths can meet the requirements of the vast majority of projects. The standard length of U glass in our inventory is 7 meters. Pre-tempered outdoor U glass can reach 8 meters, and for longer lengths, custom options are available upon contacting us.
